El Tigre Waterfalls
El Tigre Waterfalls is a private nature reserve in Monteverde, Costa Rica, managed by the Rodríguez family. Spanning 60 hectares (148 acres), it is part of a dedicated conservation and reforestation effort. Here, you can explore well-marked trails that lead you through lush forests, cross hanging bridges, and admire four stunning waterfalls. Along the way, it's common to spot exotic birds, butterflies, and other local wildlife that enrich your experience.
El Tigre Waterfalls offers two options to enjoy this natural wonder: the Standard Expedition and the Deluxe Version.
Standard Expedition:
This self-guided option covers an 8 km (5-mile) trail designed for hiking enthusiasts who prefer to explore at their own pace. Throughout the journey, you'll cross ten bridges, including hanging and natural ones, and have the opportunity to swim in natural pools formed by the river. The final stretch involves a challenging 3 km (1.85-mile) uphill climb, testing your physical endurance. This expedition is ideal for those seeking an intense and rewarding experience in nature.
Deluxe Version:
If you prefer a more comfortable experience, the Deluxe Version is the perfect choice. This 8 km (5-mile) trek takes you through the same breathtaking landscapes as the Standard Expedition, including the four waterfalls and ten bridges. The key difference is that when you reach the final 3 km (1.85-mile) uphill section, you can choose to avoid the strenuous climb by taking a horseback ride or a 4x4 vehicle, making the return much easier. To complete the experience, you'll enjoy a delicious traditional lunch at the on-site restaurant, where you can relax and recharge while taking in the natural beauty around you.
Beyond its beauty, El Tigre Waterfalls focuses on conservation. Along the trails, you'll find informative displays about reforestation projects and the importance of protecting Monteverde’s cloudforest. The Rodríguez family is committed to preserving this unique ecosystem for future generations.
After the adventure, you can unwind at the on-site restaurant, which offers fresh, locally sourced meals—the perfect way to end a day of exploration and connection with nature.
