Traveling alone always pushes me to try new things. This time, I wanted to challenge myself and feel connected to nature in a way I’d never experienced before. Monteverde Extremo Park’s Extreme Canopy Tour seemed like the perfect choice. From the moment I arrived, the excitement was palpable. The sight of adventurers zipping through the trees and the cheerful buzz of the guides immediately set the tone for the day.
Once I checked in, I was greeted warmly by the guides. Their enthusiasm was contagious, and I instantly felt at ease, even though I didn’t know anyone there. I was harnessed up, given a quick safety briefing, and paired with a group of fellow adventurers. Although I was solo, I didn’t feel alone. The guides made sure I was comfortable with the equipment and encouraged us to ask questions.
We started with a short walk through the lush forest. This was the perfect introduction, giving me a chance to admire the greenery and feel the calm before the adrenaline kicked in.
When we reached the first zipline, my heart was racing. Standing at the platform, I could see the vast expanse of the cloud forest stretching into the distance. The guide clipped me in, counted down, and suddenly I was off.
The feeling was indescribable. The wind rushing past, the endless green below, and the faint calls of birds above—it was like flying in a dream. Each zipline became progressively faster and longer. Some stretched over a kilometer, making you feel like a tiny bird gliding through the forest.
As I soared, I took moments to truly absorb the beauty of Monteverde. The air was fresh and crisp, and the views were breathtaking. One line in particular stood out—it carried me so high that the forest floor below felt like a distant memory. Being solo made the experience even more personal. There was no one to distract me from the sounds of nature and the sheer joy of the moment.
After several ziplines, it was time for the Tarzan Swing, an experience that took the adventure to the next level. The guides clipped me into a large harness and walked me to the edge of a platform. Below was a free-fall drop, followed by a massive swing that arced through the trees.
Standing on the edge, my nerves kicked in. The guide reassured me with a smile, saying, “The hardest part is letting go.” And they were right. Taking that step into nothingness was both terrifying and exhilarating. For a split second, I was free-falling, my stomach flipping. Then the swing caught me, and I was flying back and forth, laughing uncontrollably.
This wasn’t just a swing—it was a leap of faith, a moment that pushed me to trust myself completely. And the adrenaline rush? Pure magic.
Little did I know, this was just a preview of what Monteverde Extremo Park had in store. Later that day, I took on the Extreme Tarzan Swing, a bigger and far more intense version of this classic thrill. Read about my Extreme Tarzan Swing adventure here.
Just when I thought the day couldn’t get any better, I tried the Extreme Superman. Unlike the other lines, this one lets you fly face-down, arms stretched out, as if you’re a superhero speeding through the sky. The guides strapped me into the special harness, and as they double-checked everything, I felt the familiar mix of excitement and nerves.
This zipline was the longest and fastest of them all, reaching speeds of up to 65 km/h (40 mph). As I launched, the sensation was unlike anything I’d felt before. The world rushed past me in a blur of green and blue, and I couldn’t stop smiling. It was a perfect way to end the canopy tour, giving me a new perspective on the forest and on myself.
After the canopy tour, I took a short break before tackling another challenge: the Extreme Bungee Jump. If you think ziplines are thrilling, imagine free-falling from 143 meters (470 feet). It was one of the most empowering experiences of my life. Learn more about the Extreme Bungee Jump here.
One thing that stood out throughout the tour was the professionalism and friendliness of the guides. They made sure every participant felt safe, whether they were first-timers or seasoned adventurers. People in my group praised them too, with one fellow traveler saying, “Charlie and Rubén are the best—they make you laugh even when you’re terrified!”
In fact, the guides weren’t just there for safety—they were storytellers. Between lines, they sharedcool facts about the forest, making the adventure feel personal and unique.
As a solo traveler, this tour was perfect. It gave me the chance to challenge myself, meet new people, and enjoy the beauty of Monteverde in a way that felt deeply personal. The mix of adventure and nature was unforgettable, and I left Extremo Park feeling accomplished and alive.
